A pull from their self-titled 2011 12-track LP, the song follows the album’s master missive, along with this year’s earlier re-release, “These Long Nights.”

“The origins of these songs go back several years,” frontman and band namesake James Cohen considers. “The general themes are one of loneliness and isolation which, unfortunately, are sentiments many of us can relate to during these difficult times currently.”

First on the scene for their 2011 self-titled debut via Soccermom Records / Warner Music Canada, the album’s banner single “So Long Sweet Deception” charted for 16 weeks, hitting the Rock Top 50 along the way.

Canadian alt-folk pop singer/songwriter, poet and producer Imogen Joy summons a muse all her own with the release of her new single, “My Marianne”.

“This song is about dipping into different memories,” Joy says. “I say ‘do our little moments blur?’ and that’s exactly what the song is doing: blurring together the highs and lows of having a connection with someone, as well as the simultaneous burden and privilege it is to love someone.

“I’d read this letter Leonard Cohen wrote to Marianne Ihlen as she was passing away,” the Toronto-based artist adds, recalling the song’s inspiration. “It was basically an ode to his muse and friend, and said he wasn’t far behind her.

“There are albums in the annals of music history that are tied to and influenced by certain geographical locations,” Calgary, Alberta-based multi-instrumentalist (and man behind Deep Covers) Daniel Wilson says. “This is one of those albums.

Canadian folk rock singer/songwriter Shane Cloutier sets down the weight of emotional baggage in his new single, “Catching Up”.

“This song is one that many, if not all, people can relate to,” the Collingwood-based artist considers. “The human element of emotion can be both tragic and beautiful, and I believe that even the darker side of it can sometimes bring out the best of who we are if we fight hard enough.”

“‘Catching Up’ is an expression of trying to move on in life but having emotional baggage weighing me down,” he continues. “It’s hard to keep up when certain shades of sunlight and certain smells in the air pull me back into my past.

“I wrote ‘Catching Up’ in one day — mostly because I compulsively felt I needed to finish it. It also came together naturally; I could feel in my gut when I had the right chord.”

There’s a line in the song about ‘what can be done, of fathers and sons?’; the boy in the song wants a better world, and a country that can stand on its feet, but he’s clearly unsure of himself and what to do.

Multi-GRAMMY and JUNO Award-winning artist Chin Injeti processes grief and healing in this, his new single release, “Falling”.

On reflection, harnessing the power of collaboration and healing power of music as part of processing grief is in line with Injeti’s inimitably successful lifelong path. Music has always been something of a balm for the now-Vancouver based artist; born in Hyderabad, India and having to survive polio from birth, music therapy treatments helped facilitate his motor skills, ultimately changing his life.

Romanian act Amadeus has come forward with the new release "Aehter", with a story that perfectly reflects music's universal character and global appeal.

"Aehter" is a collaboration with an artist that is 6.468 km away from Bucharest, the girls' hometown: Faizan. He plays handpan, a versatile and delicate percussion instrument, with a very interesting and beautiful story.

The collab began online, between Faizan and Xenti Runceanu, composer and producer for Amadeus, when they co-wrote the song together. After the song was ready, the artists met and filmed the video in some of the most beautiful areas of the Maldives, Faizan's home. The shooting of the video took place before the pandemic and it unfortunately was one of the last trips abroad for Amadeus, as travel bans ensued shortly thereafter.

White Lightning has struck with the release of Canadian folk-country rock artist Mary Garnett Edwards’ new album.
