"2023 is going to be a big year!” exclaims WIMC Executive Director, Robyn Stewart. “I could not be prouder of the creatives who have been put forward for Women in Music Canada Honours and I am inspired their incredible accomplishments. This program has been an exciting vision and I am humbled by the support of our funders and partners who are helping us make this inaugural year happen. The Women in Music Canada Honours and International Women’s Day programming will from here on be a highlight of our year and I look forward to bringing our music community together this March.”

WIMC’s International Women’s Day programming kicks off on Tuesday, March 7, with workshops taking place throughout the day at Universal Music Canada’s new campus, 80A The Academy (80 Atlantic Ave, Toronto, ON). Workshops include creative asset reviews, panels on export readiness, equity, music and technology, a keynote and discussion about creating more diverse company cultures, and more. Workshop sessions will be complimentary but sign up here to reserve your spot.

On Wednesday, March 8 (International Women’s Day), WIMC will celebrate the recipients of the inaugural Women In Music Canada Honours, with a reception style dinner and showcase at The Opera House. A special induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame will also be presented at the event – more details to come. The Honours program was designed to celebrate and support female identifying Canadian innovators and creators who have had outstanding success in their field in the eligibility year (December 2021 through December 2022 for annual based categories).

The Honours program includes eight categories: Artist of the Year (presented by Amazon Music), Distinguished Leader, Entrepreneur of the Year (presented by Bandzoogle), Excellence in Live Music, International Leader of the Year, Organization of the Year, the Trailblazer Award, and the Women in Music Canada Honour Roll, which will honour up to 10 women and female identifying industry members or artists who are on the rise. 379 were submitted for consideration in the eight categories by prospective honourees or another Canadian colleague. A long list of top submissions for the Honours will be announced on February 16.

Hosted by CBC’s Saroja Coelho, the Honours reception dinner and awards presentation will also showcase an incredible group of artists performing throughout the evening, including rising country star, Sacha, producer, DJ and performer, Liliane Chlela; JUNO-nominated recording artist, songwriter and producer, Desiree Dawson; Cree and Salish singer and TikTok creator, Tia Wood; and more to come.
