New single out now, ahead of 2025 album ‘The Monkey in the Crown’; Spring & Summer tour dates announced

There’s no metaphor. No abstraction. No retreat.

What does it mean to raise a child in a nation that won’t protect them? To send them off to school each morning with a silent prayer—because hope is all that’s left when policy fails?

 HuDost isn’t asking these questions quietly.

Their latest single, “Broken Down in America,” co-written with Dan Haseltine of Jars of Clay and The Chosen, is a soul-piercing cry of grief, rage, and resilience. It’s a song for every parent rehearsing tragedy in their head. For every student taught to hide before they’re taught to dream. For every citizen too exhausted to shout—but too heartbroken to stay silent.

There's no shortage of artists who are concerned about climate change, but for HuDost, it’s personal. Their impassioned new single, “Fire of Eden,” was inspired by an epiphany vocalist/lyricist Moksha Sommer had while on the road, surveying the damage wrought by the California wildfires. She could see that the environmental upheavals she had been witnessing for two touring cycles held implications that were beyond troubling—not just for her, but for the baby she was pregnant with at the time. And of course, for the rest of us.

Sommer and Hines say they were driven to write and release the song by the banning of drag performances in Tennessee, which clearly hit close to home for this Kentucky-by-way-of-Quebec outfit. The context is made plain by the accompanying music video, which features a breathtaking transformation by Canadian queen KIARA that develops into a full-on Pride parade. But the breadth and purposeful ambiguity of the lyrics reflects HuDost’s belief that performative uproar is distorting and delegitimatizing a host of other important issues, including women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, faith, race, education, and politics in general.

“We live in a time of challenge,” the group says. “Debates on social media rage on every issue, with little consideration of who those debates affect. What if we hear the perspective of people whose lives are truly being affected? What if we share the stage instead of stealing the spotlight?”

Seeking to sit the world down for a bit of a breather, folk-rock duo HuDost serve up down-home comfort with the release of their breathtaking and enveloping new album, Anthems of Home.

The expansive and lush 11-song release — and its newest single and video, “Home is Bigger Than Us” — sets out to “ask important questions,” the award-winning band says.

Led by Montreal, QC artist Moksha Sommer, and Bowling Green, KY artist Jemal Wade Hines, the song is from HuDost’s forthcoming November 2021 album, Anthems of Home.

“The single addresses our disconnection from — and harm of — the planet, and our awakening to the needed return,” the band says. “It is a joyous and celebratory call for us to open our ears and consciousness to the heartbeat of the earth that brings us back to the source.”
