Kelli Trottier ‘Can Smell the Rain’

Kelli Trottier.jpg

Born and raised in the hotbed of musical tradition and innovation that is Ontario’s Ottawa Valley, Kelli Trottier discovered her passion for entertaining, learned her craft, and developed a distinctive style while still right at home.

Now, Kelli’s talent carries her to stages across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and the Far North, making fans and friends at every venue along the way.

Kelli’s musical odyssey of dance, fiddle and song began early in life as she studied and mastered the unique and fluid style of step-dance that evolved with the loggers and woodsmen of the historic Ottawa River watershed.

The fiddle was a natural extension of the dance; you just can’t have one without the other.  And who better to learn from than the senior masters of Celtic and Scottish traditional music. Kelli learned well from these sources and then embraced the exuberant rhythmic fiddle and step dance styles of the French Canadian pioneers.

Every musical family needs a singer and a songwriter and Kelli’s family was fortunate that she had an amazing ear, a beautifully clear, natural voice, and the desire to use that voice at every opportunity.  Learning the songs she loved from the artists she admired, and giving them wings with an effortlessly-developing style, soon led to the inevitable writing and performing of her own material.

Black Heritage Productions Honours African Contributions in Canada

JoJo Chintoh.jpg

Jojo Chinto and Michael Williams have formed a new company (“Black Heritage Productions”) in 2008 to inform, inspire and influence communication. By creating culturally relevant media.
Here is brief outline of are our first series and  short film.

Outstanding Canadians are 24 interstitials about the accomplishments and contributions of African-Canadians in the flow of Canadian history. Many of these unique Canadians were often ignored by historians and simply forgotten. Our goal is to tell you about those forgotten individuals and make sure they get the recognition they deserve. Our research discovered many unique stories across Canada. Unfortunately, our budget would only allow us to profile just 24. With proper funding we can do more. Rogers Communications funded the original project. For some unknown reason they're not interested or willing to fund anymore. But we haven't given up hope. We still continue to explore funding opportunities in the hope of doing more interstitials to educate Canadians, especially, the young people, about some of the individuals on whose shoulders we stand as we move on.

Coronation Street: Tales From the Street

coronation street picture.JPG

Why a story on Coronation Street in a music magazine? The answer is when the Coronation Street theme song starts, millions recognize the song and they know it is time for another episode for loyal ‘Corrie’ fans.

On 17 September 2010, Coronation Street became the world's longest-running TV soap opera in production celebrating 50 years since it first was first broadcast on December 9, 1960. For those of you that live under a rock, Coronation Street is a British soap opera set in a fictional town in Greater Manchester called Weatherfield and is produced by ITV Granada Television and shown across Canada on the Canadian Broadcast Corporation affiliates. Since first being aired, it has been one of the most financially lucrative programs on commercial television, underpinning the success of its broadcaster ITV and its franchise Granada Television.

The first episode was doomed for cancellation by entertainment columnists who predicted it would not last three weeks. However viewers were immediately drawn to the serial, won over by Coronation Street's 'ordinary' characters. With a variety of twisting plots from the original story of a student Kenneth Barlow to the plots of murder, suicides, bank robbery, liberated lifestyles and desperate housewives, Coronation Street remains a favourite soap opera throughout the world.
