So it's September and new releases are falling like leaves in my inbox. Love it. In no particular order, this week's sampling.

The final testament from an artist who shaped rock'n'roll, Southern Blood is Gregg Allman’s newest release since the 2011 Grammy Award-nominated solo landmark, Low Country Blues. It serves as a uniquely personal piece, featuring songs written by his friends and admirers (Jackson Browne, Willie Dixon, Jerry Garcia & Robert Hunter, Lowell George and Spooner Oldham & Dan Penn) and is a mix of classic rock & roll, blues, and funk, with emotional texture and powerful subject matter. Produced by Don Was, and recorded at the renowned FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL, Southern Blood highlights Allman’s legacy as an iconic singer/songwriter and exceptional practitioner of the American blues tradition. Harley Davidson will be honouring Gregg, a longtime motorcycle enthusiast, with special events across North America on release day.

Canadian-Mexican artist, Boogát, has unveiled the new video for his track, Mezcalero Feliz,
which premiered via Ici Musique.

The song is from his forthcoming album, San Cristobal Baile Inn, set for release on October 6 via Maisonnette Music, and will be available for pre-order on September 29. This fall, Boogát will hit the road to share his new songs, performing across Ontario and Quebec, with stops in Brooklyn, NY and Guadalajara, Mexico. See below for a list of dates, with more to be announced.

Mezcalero Feliz draws inspiration from Mezcal, the drink, and its storied traditions. It provides a window into the millennium of the Mezcalillero & Mezcolatra lifestyle. The song borrows and reworks numerous Mexican folk sayings that celebrate Mezcal, whileMezcalero Feliz shines through its modern interpretation of a song style usually reserved for traditional Mexican music. The song is the second single from San Cristobal Baile Inn, following Eres Una Bomba

Dave Arcari Live at Memorial Hall

Dave Arcari is one of those guys that is often out on the road touring, gigging and travelling around his native UK, Scottish homeland, much of Europe and more recently the USA. Known for his hard, driving and percussive style, Arcari favours steel-resonator guitars and banjos for his, at times pretty unique, take on blues and roots music, with a fine eye for Scottish traditional folk music which he attacks with absolute confidence and thundering acerbity.

In many ways it’s hard not to think of Arcari as a bit of a ‘wild man’, a blues rebel with a purpose and power that spills out with every song he works. Most of the 26 tracks on this live release are self-penned and all feature his distinctive blues take and gripping, grit and whiskey-fuelled vocals. I’ve been a fan of this guy’s music for some years now and have caught his live performance where he really does come into his own clearly enjoying the performance and his audience participation.

Today, Lee Ann Womack has released the latest cut from her forthcoming album The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone the shimmering and ghostly "Hollywood." Written by Lee Ann, Adam Wright and Waylon Payne, the track poignantly portrays a relationship riddled with doubt and uncertainty.

Lee Ann will make several appearances at AmericanaFest this week, including her annual Lee Ann and Friends showcase at Music City Roots at the YeeHaw Tent on Thursday, September 14th at 9:10 PM. The event this year will feature special guests John Fulbright, Jamey Johnson, Amanda Shires, Adam Wright, Waylon Payne, David Ramirez, Andrew Combs and Secret Sisters. Lee Ann will also discuss her new album with journalist and author Peter Cooper and play a special stripped-down set at the Country Music Hall of Fame's Ford Theater on Saturday, September 16th at 2 PM. Produced by her husband Frank Liddell (fresh off a 2017 ACM Album of the Year win for Miranda Lambert's 'The Weight of These Wings') and largely recorded at the legendary SugarHill Studios in Houston, TX, The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone features more Lee Ann Womack co-writes than all her previous albums combined, making it her most personal collection to date.
