CASHBOX CANADA’S EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH BRUCE COLE

Bruce Cole

Story: Bill Delingat

With all the energy building around the upcoming 40th Anniversary of the JUNOS, Cashbox had a chance to ask legendary Rock photographer Bruce Cole a few questions on his experiences as a photographer in the Juno years, his start in the industry and few tips for the fans on their next concert shots.

C.B: You started in photography as a teenager? What drew you to it when your friends were probably into sports and girls, teen stuff etc. and what was your first camera?

Cole: My first camera was my dad’s, it was a rangefinder style model made by Iloca of Germany with a Zeiss Lens. The first time I saw a print develop in a darkroom tray, I saw the magic of how a simple sheet of white paper became an image. I was hooked!

C.B: Once you decided to make a career out of it, how did you branch off into the music scene vs. weddings, portraits and news, which would be a normal route for a young photographer?

Titans Eve Unleash Debut ‘The Divine Equal’

Titans Eve

Our main man in metal Jon Asher tells us this crew are big new thunder to get with, so you’ve been warned.

Vancouver thrash metallers Titans Eve announce they are officially releasing debut album ‘The Divine Equal’ on February 1st, 2011, just in time for Valentine’s Day gifting. The album features 11 epic metal tunes influenced by themes from the 17th century poem’ Paradise Lost’, the best joint ever dropped by John ‘The One’ Milton, ‘The Book Of Genesis’, the best-selling collection ever from the original Apostles, the OG testifying of ‘The Book Of Genesis’ and from the oldest school hard rockers of Judaism, the ‘First Book Of The Hebrew Bible’. . Heaaaavy, y’all.

Titans Eve came together when brothers Brian (guitar/vocals) and Kyle Gamblin (guitar/backup vocals) decided to start their own musical project in 2008 after departing from previous projects. The line up of Titans Eve was completed with the recruitment of Jesse Hord (bass) and Casey Ory (drums).

From there the Vancouver-based band have set out to create honest, powerful modern metal and have repeatedly piled into the “Titan Train” (i.e. their 2007 Ford E-350 van) and traveled across Canada, bringing the music to as large an audience as possible. They’ve played over 80 shows in the past year and a half and 2011 will see them travel further than ever before as tour dates will be announced for Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

Bill King/Jane Bunnett Release Special Single to Benefit Food With Dignity Program

Bill King

As Charlie dickens remarked pointedly so long ago, " It is at this time of year that want is most keenly felt". Sadly, those lines still apply, so in the spirit of the season, check out this most worthy of projects spearheaded by a pair of Toronto musicians with a reputation for caring.musicians

We’ve just finished what I feel is an important music work – ‘War on Poverty’ with Jane Bunnett’s African/Cuban Blues Summit Band. We have joined forces in a campaign  to expose the growing underclass which is estimated to be three million in Canada who go without the bare necessities to make life livable. We have partnered with ‘The Stop’ and their campaign - ‘Food with Dignity’ Program to bring greater attention to this severe crisis.  All of us donated our services from players to studio. Proceeds once online will go directly to ‘The Stop.’ We want people to upload music and create their own stories across Canada reflecting the faces and issues most affected by poverty and post on YouTube. We are hoping to make a difference. Below is a link to a Souncloud player that makes it quick and easy to access and listen to the track.

All the best,

Bill king

Keith Bradford of the Cashbox Nashville office launches new page on Cashbox Canada

For many months now we have featured Bradford’s excerpts from his upcoming DVD Series, ‘The Music Business, Ya Gotta Luv It’.  The response to this column, along with the need for a country section to Cashbox Canada, has brought about the new page ‘Cashbox Music City U.S.A.’  Keith Bradford, is co-owner of NBRN.FM with his brother, Mike, as well as owner and operator of KMA Records, and Keith Bradford Promotions.

Canada has grown in the last decade to have a vibrant country music market with the likes of Michelle Wright, Gord Bamford, Julian Austin, Johnny Reid, Paul Brandt, Corb Lund to name a few, from the days when America only knew of Anne Murray, Gord Lightfoot and Tommy Hunter.

The borders of our countries when it comes to music don’t seem to matter as much as they used to, just as the music charts are now crossing over between adult contemporary to country.  This new section will be completely submitted from the desk of Bradford, situated in Nashville, Tennessee or as it is called ‘Music City, U.S.A’ to us.  Bradford has this to say of his new section.
