Canada’s new micro-grant and mentorship provider  ‘The Snow Lake Initiative’ announces Sleepless Records singer, songwriter ‘Kandle’ as the first mentor for its three-month, artist-to-artist mentorship program.

“I want to emphasize the importance of having wise and trustworthy people around you, like the ones I’ve had in my corner.” – Kandle

The Snow Lake Initiative, Canada’s new micro-grant and mentorship provider for artists of all disciplines, announces Canadian singer, songwriter ‘Kandle’ as the first artist-to-artist mentor for its Snow Lake Mentorship Program.

Kandle (who also performs with her father, Canadian rock icon Neil Osborne of 54•40) was born in Victoria, B.C. Her commanding voice and vivid soundscapes create a witchy world of swampy blues, shadowy pop and ghostly rock. In 2017, she signed to Toronto-based alternative label Sleepless Records and released her acclaimed debut EP ‘Damned if I Do’ on May 11, 2018.

KandleKandleThe road to her sophomore album, ‘Holy Smoke’ (released September 28, 2018), was a winding one. On the album’s 11 tracks, Kandle tackles sexual assault, abuse of power and life on the road. She teamed up with all-star producers Sam Goldberg Jr. (Broken Social Scene), Devon Portielje (Half Moon Run), Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck), John Agnello (Sonic Youth) and Alex Bonenfant (July Talk), and upon its launch, ‘Holy Smoke’ debuted at #4 on Canada’s iTunes alternative charts.

Kandle Osbourne states, “Being a mentor sparked my interest because I want to emphasize the importance of having wise and trustworthy people around you, like the ones I’ve had in my corner. These people have allowed me to be the artist and businesswoman I am today. In today's music industry the artist has to focus on creative, but also an overall business. I'm a producer, songwriter, and boss of Kandle Music Inc. and am excited to share my ten years of knowledge with you!”

The Snow Lake Initiative founder J’aime Payne is a creative entrepreneur from Huntsville, Ontario. She relocated to Toronto in 2013, where she worked with several high-profile businesses in the music industry. Ventures included successful applications for provincial grants grossing over $500K, business management for some of Canada’s multi-million-dollar export artists and an inspired term as Director of Member Services at The Canadian Independent Recording Artists’ Association (CIRAA) before it dissolved in 2016.
